How to use a fire extinguisher

P.A.S.S

P - Pull the pin.

A - Aim at the base of the fire.

S - Squeeze the trigger.

S - Sweep from side to side.

Tips for using a fire extinguisher:

Stand about 8-10 feet from the fire.

Be sure of your aim since a water extinguisher will shoot a 40 foot stream for about one minute, and a chemical extinguisher should last approximately 15 seconds.

With small fires, such as burning paper, be carefull not to blow the burning objects around.

Never use water on an electrical or flammable liquid fire. Water will only spread these types of fire instead of putting them out.

DO NOT try to extinguish a fire without an escape route.

Here are the different types of fire extinguishers:

Class A - used on ordinary materials like wood, cloth and paper.

Class B - used on flammable liquids like gasoline, oil and grease.

Class C - used on electrical equipment including wiring, fuse boxes and appliances.

Class ABC - used for fighting A, B, and C fires.
